Russian duo Zeskullz bring us their \’Life\’ EP, which is also their debut release on No Tomorrow Recordings.
Kosinus and Enei have immersed themselves in the world of music, fashion and art in their home country, taking their musical cues from areas as diverse as classical and heavy metal. But it\’s really their presence within the club culture of Russia that goes right back to its inception that defines them. They merge classic house and rave influences with modern sounds and techniques into tracks that seem to encapsulate the accelerated nature of the dance scene that only really began around 1996 in Russia.
Becoming a duo in 2009 they worked without an agent, personally flying abroad to hand their demos to artists they admired. Within three years they were on the bill of Global Gathering in their home city and had released their first single. They continue to work as hard as ever, DJing almost every night of the week and working in the studio almost every day.
The title track of the EP is a bass house anthem with catchy melodies and a killer vocal courtesy of Demirra.
Next up is breaks and garage-influenced banger \’CMN\’, showing the slightly darker edge to the Zeskullz sound.
\’Death On The Disco\’ shows just what a depth of understanding the duo have of dance music as they deliver a perfectly coherent four-minute history lesson that takes in old-school, breaks, techno and EDM in the space of one track, somehow managing to make it sound like the most natural thing in the world.
To finish the EP up you will also find a dub version of \’Life\’.
