The 79-year-old Lee Redmond holds the Guinness Record for the longest nails ever, but sadly she lost them in a terrible accident, and she revealed how it happened.
Reportedly, Lee hasn’t cut her nails since 1979, which led to her breaking the record for the longest fingernails. To keep them long and healthy, she dips them in warm olive oil every day and uses special cosmetics to strengthen them.
Her nails are between 28.2 in and 31.5 in each, which is in a total of 24 ft 7.8 in.
According to The Mirror, she stated in an interview after a crash: “It was just a challenge to myself to see how far they would go before they started twisting out of shape.”
“I kept setting dates and dates that I was going to cut them, and I just couldn’t do it. It’s strange how they become part of you,” she continued.
But then an accident happened to this Guinness World Record holder, as she was involved in a car crash which broke her nails.
“The first thing I spotted was a fingernail, and I started crying,” she said.
“It was just something I had to accept because I couldn’t change anything. The thing that bothered me was, it becomes your identity. I felt I had lost part of that,” Lee concluded.
After the terrible accident, the Guinness Record was handed over to Ayanna Williams.
