Miami in March is known to be a bustle of talent, music, and beautiful people. Miami Music Week 2016 and Ultra Music Festival are two places that I like to call home. Being hands down one of the most life-changing weekends of my life, the EDM Chicago team and I took over Miami by storm. Being in one city with people from all over the world, united by the love and power of music is truly moving.
The first evening was a hit at the LIV with Afrojack. Hyping the crowd unlike I\’ve ever seen a club riled up, Afrojack kept the energy at an all time high the entire evening. Bringing out Hardwell to drop his track \”Hollywood\” and then later bringing out Galantis and Dmitri Vegas & Like Mike, the evening was one for the books. Sticking to his electro/progressive style for most of the night, at one point in the night Afrojack took a turn for the wild side and released some jungle terror tracks that made every body in the club bounce to the beat.
Onward to the next day, we\’ve got press coverage for you at DJ Mag sessions at the Surf comber Hotel. Starting off the event with some deep house vibes, the set-up of the venue was perfect to be able to chill and mingle for the attendees. Having a beachy/sandy side of the stage and the pool on the other side of the venue truly have it some versatility. The day progressed further and further, featuring amazing artists such as 3lau, DVBBS, Dmitri Vegas & Like Mike, Steve Aoki, and an insane amount of talent as well. Drawing in crowds of people to watch from the South Beach entrance of the hotel, the shows were absolutely mesmerizing and the energy was incredible.
Following that, we had the Maxximize day at the Spinnin Records party featured in the Nautilus South Beach. Dedicating a whole day to staying at this event, the EDM Chicago team got some time to explore the venue, to interview the artists in the artist lounge, to catch some MMW veterans\’ stories from the crowd, and even get a hype up of the upcoming Ultra Music Festival with one of the Ultra Angels herself. With powerful performances from Firebeatz, Blasterjaxx, Breathe Carolina and many more, this particular event showcased one of the tracks that I heard absolutely everywhere the entire week in Miami; Soldier by Blasterjaxx and Breathe Carolina. Again, the stage an poolside combination made this a day event for absolutely everyone.
Bustling off that night though, we took over Dyro\’s featured performance at the Mokai Nightclub. Seeing such a bass-heavy performance in such an intimate club setting was remarkable. The sound and the set was almost like a controlling force, Dyro knew how to please the crowd with every song that he put out. This evening was a wonderful one for meeting some old friends. Firebeatz along with most of the individuals who preformed at the Spinnin Records previously that day came out to support Dyro and we had some time to mingle with them and talk about the hype and absolute success that Miami Music Week had been so far.
The next day was the big day… Day 1 of Ultra Music Festival. Popping by the Spinnin Records party featuring Heldeep Records, we were able to catch some of the amazing talents that practically define the house music scene as we know it today. Oliver Heldens, Bobby Puma, Chocolate Puma and more, this day was one of shuffling, dancing, and vibes that were mesmerizing and unlike any others…
