The Bass God never fails to outdo himself. Three days after his headlining Electric Forest set (see here), Lorin Ashton, more commonly known as Bassnectar, released his newest album: Into the Sun. The seventeen track album features styles including shimmering bass, trap, and house beats mixed within. The album is led off by quality tracks: Chasing Heaven, Into the Sun, The Mystery Spot, a remix of The Naked and Famous\’ \”No Way\”, and Speakerbox (feat. Lafa Taylor). Within the first five songs the versatility of the album is already apparent.
Despite the range of styles featured on Into the Sun, Bassnectar still drops his iconic bass (see Bass Head) in songs like Science Fiction. The album culminates with Mixtape 13, a continuous mix track of the whole album-giving the album the feel of a mix tape. Into the Sun comes just in time for Bassnectar\’s headlining Lollapalooza Set on August 2nd. His return to Lolla will be his first since 2012. After establishing a \”Bass Camp Caravan\” at E-Forest, we\’ll have to see what\’s in store when he lights up Grant Park in early August.
