Everyone has that one song that can never get old. Put it on repeat, and it\’s like you\’re listening to it for the first time all over again. For a lot of people, \”Feel Good Inc.\” by Gorillaz is that song.
So when it comes to a remix, it gets risky because sometimes you just can\’t mess with greatness. And listeners can easily fall on two different sides of the spectrum: hostility or appreciation.
Cue Matt Dash.
Based in Indianapolis, the 23-year old DJ and longtime fan of Gorillaz took this classic track into the studio for a remix, and let me tell you, it is sincerely fantastic. He was also kind enough to let us premiere it.
The mix itself begins with a deep build up, and as the mood gets lighter, we hit the main breakdown that essentially makes the remix what it is. It\’s Gorillaz meets house music.
Taking up the challenge to mix \”Feel Good Inc.,\” Matt says he wanted to create something that was easy to listen to while still providing something that seems natural in a club or festival setting. His aim was to add his own personal touch to the song and maintain his own style in spite of what people would think.
\”It\’s impossible to make a song that everyone in the world will like. I just tried to leave elements of the original that people know and love,\” says Matt.
Even though we only have remixes to listen to from Matt right now, we can look forward to some original production sometime later this year. Dedicating long hours to the studio this summer, he has a few original tracks that he\’s still mastering before he puts an EP together (if you listen closely to his live sets, you might just hear some of them). He will also be working with New York City\’s Mike Bugout on an unofficial remix to \”Ten Seconds Before Sunrise\” by Tiesto that will be out very soon.
