Following-up on the success of their last collaboration \”Memories,\” KSHMR and Bassjackers teamed up again for \”Extreme.\” Featuring Sidnie Tipton on vocals, the KSHMR and Bassjackers track eschews KSHMR\’s usual booming big room sound for a more sun-soaked relaxing sound. If anything, it channels more of the bleached indietronica vibe of acts like Odesza and perhaps the recent hits from The Chainsmokers.
Released on powerhouse label Spinnin\’ Records, \”Memories\” evokes the beaches of India, flutes and whispy vocals conjuring up feelings of tropical bliss. KSHMR and Bassjackers easily could\’ve jumped on Major Lazer\’s world sound and sacrifice their own artistic integrity, but they manage to assert themselves in equal measure. Perhaps fans of the Tiësto collab \”Secrets,\” which put KSHMR on the map in a big way, will miss the big room boom but this track\’s ability to remind us of summertime is indeniable.
Commenting to Billboard, KSHMR attributes the song\’s potential to the friendship between he and Bassjackers. This is not a case of coworkers working together, but friends creating: “This song was a journey…[Bassjackers\’] wisdom helped bring the song to a conclusion I really love. Sidnie again brings something of magic to the table.” The wistfulness and emotional quality of this song is perhaps why KSHMR has ascended to position 12 in a matter of two years on the DJ Mag 100.
