If you’ve ever been to Electric Forest, then you know how incredible the event can be. The festival had a magical weekend for the 2019 event, even after reconsolidating back to one weekend. Taking place in Rothbury, Michigan, June 27th-30th, the festival welcomed all different types of attendees and art.
Succesful Consolidation
Electric Forest has been taking place since 2011. The event has predominantly been over the course of one weekend. However, in 2017 and 2018, the festival decided to expand to two weekends because there was such high demand. Although both weekends were successful, the festival realized two weekends worth of attendees was too harsh on the grounds. As such, the event consolidated back to one weekend for 2019. Although attendees were skeptical about having so many people return for the event, the weekend went flawlessly. Attendees had the space they needed to explore and jam out with friends and family. All festival goers had the time of their lives, while helping preserve the land for future events.
Magical Weekend Full of Music
Electric Forest was created by The String Cheese Incident, which is why they play multiple sets throughout the 4-day weekend. One of the highlights of the festival is what’s called a “Shebang Skeptical” on the Saturday night. The band will play for between three to four hours, hosting the craziest set of the weekend. There are dancers, fire, lasers, hot air balloons, and much more. This is a once in a lifetime experience and was definitely one of the highlights of the weekend. Additional highlight performances of the weekend include: ODESZA, Gramatik, Bassnectar, Zeds Dead, STS9, and T-Pain, to name a few. The mix of genres at the festival is refreshing, as it spans across all spectrums of EDM, with a mix of jam bands and rappers as well.
New Additions to the Forest
As the festival is always changing and becoming better each year, this comes with new and fun additions to the grounds themselves. The art attendees bring to share with others is always a major highlight, as it makes the forest what it is; a place for all to share themselves with others. The art is ever-changing, and new creations make appearances each year. Not only is the art evolving, but so is the forest. In 2019 a new stage was introduced, called The Honeycomb. This stage was hidden toward the back of the forest, but was by far one of the best locations for music. Some highlight performances from this stage include El Papachango & Dakini Star, Honeycomb, Anomalie, and Lightship Beatbox. This stage was a major addition to the event, and we hope to see it again in future years.
Celebrating 10 Years of Magic
In 2024, Electric Forest will return for their 10th year. This is a call for celebration, especially for all the love and positivity it’s brought attendees throughout the years. Each year I attend the forest, I never expect it to be better than the last; but I’m always wrong. I have an expectation that the event will do it big for their 10th birthday, and I cannot wait to see what’s in store. This festival is one of the highlights every festival season, so if you haven’t been yet but want to, next year is the year for you.
