We all know him as the iconic performer with the mouse head helmet as significant to his image as his name; Deadmau5. And now finally after nine months of legal troubles between Deadmau5 and Disney, the relations are finally settled. According to The Hollywood Insider, the artist, (real name Joel Zimmerman) had a dispute over using the iconic mouse head which resembled Mickey Mouse in Deadmau5\’s performances and also as a staple to his creative vision. Attempting to trademark the logo in the US last September, Disney filed to block the application, claiming that the design Deadmau5 was using was \”nearly identical in appearance, connotation, and overall commercial impression to Disney\’s Mouse Ears Marks\”.
Deadmau5 then came back with a rebuttal, arising grievances on Twitter and through the US Trademark Office. He revealed that Disney had approached him about collaborating on a series of projects including reinterpretation of Fantasia and a remix of a Star Wars theme song as well. Disney refused and insisted on opposing the trademark. The exact terms of the settlement are unclear, though more information will be revealed when the resolution finalizes registration with the trademark office.
