Coachella adds room for 26,000 more attendees for 2017
Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival raised the attendance cap from 99,000 to 125,000 for 2017. To those who have attended Coachella in the past, this expansion may seem nearly impossible. Just how is the fest making room for 26,000 more attendees?
Jim Curtis, Indio Valley’s Community Services Manager, claims that the key in expanding is to accommodate more guests on the Empire Polo campgrounds.
“People staying on-site is always good for us. It’s great for traffic, great for the community,” said Curtis.
Of course, traffic management systems will be implemented throughout both weekends of Coachella. Between ride sharing systems, a temporary traffic light on Avenue 50, and road closures, there are hopes of making the attendance surge manageable.
Both Goldenvoice festivals are having large expansions this year: Stagecoach is also jumping from 75,000 to 85,000 people.
Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will take place April 14-16 and April 21-13.
