Western Canada\’s biggest electronic festival landed 17 concert goers in a Calgary hospital due to alcohol and drug abuse throughout the two-day event. Chasing Summer Festival experienced some trouble last year with ten overdoses but this year resulted in seven more; MDMA, ketamine, and cocaine were among the drugs used.
This massive festival tragedy closely follows the two deaths at HARD Summer this year which has sparked debates about banning raves in parts of California. As of late. electronic festivals have been playing into the stereotype of being a fantasy-land of excess drug consumption, disregarding the peaceful, musical nirvana that it ought to be. This distortion of the ideal festival stems from those who simply see these festivals as a place to \”roll\” and see Tiesto, which is the exact mentality hurting all these misguided ravers.
