Who doesn\’t love some new Bassnectar? Lorin Ashton is back with five songs from his new album \”Into The Sun\”, which is dropping on June 30th. This album will be released through Ashton\’s label Amorphous Music and will consist of 16 mind-bending tracks. Ashton describes it as, \”a diverse journey through sparkling melodic downtempo to shimmering hype music to mutated indie rock re-cuts to renegade trap house to blistering bass music explosions.\”
In a surprise move, Ashton released five songs from \”Into The Sun\” and made them downloadable for those who pre-order the album on Itunes. The first five songs from the new album set the bar extremely high for the rest of the album but Bassnectar will have no problem providing more heat . The songs that have been released contain features from artists such as Lafa Taylor and G Jones. The rest of the album features Bassnectar originals, remixes and collaborations with Louis Futon, Luzcid, Wintergatan, David Heartbreak, Psymbionic, Zion I, and more.
All of these artists combined with the high quality of these first songs makes \”Into The Sun\” seem like one of the biggest projects of the year but Ashton doesn\’t really see it as an album. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Ashton described the project as less of an album and more of a mixtape.
\”This is like a mixtape you\’d make for a lover or friend before they leave on a road trip or something. [Mixtapes] are fun playgrounds for me because there are no rules,\” Ashton explains. \”You\’re basically sampling anything and mixing everything together with abandon. It\’s like a big fucking sonic collage.\”
We got a taste of Bassnectar\’s new \”sonic collage\” but all we can do now is wait for June 30th. Enjoy the new tunes!
