Given the news this past week of a shooting killing four people in a club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, officials have decided to ban the BPM festival in its current location. The decision comes after a tragic event that shocked the EDM community across the globe.
In a press conference, Mayor Cristina Torres Gómez stipulated some regulations. Among them, night activity will be strictly monitored and a ban on both The BPM Festival and the Arena Festival, scheduled to take place in February.
“We want these types of events to go,” Torres Gómez said in a press conference. “We won’t allow one more.”
We can only hope that the acclaimed music festival finds a new home in a safer place. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the affected and we pray that this does not become the new norm of EDM.
