\”Afterlife\” Weekly Party Returns At The Newly Opened Annex

Chicago, the birthplace of house music, can never have too many spots to groove to some proper house. The latest spot has become the newly reopened Annex, which this past Saturday held a sneak preview of the return of the weekly house event \”Afterlife\”.

Annex, formerly known as Ohm, formerly known as Red Dog before that has already proven its success as a house venue. Its location in the heart of Wicker Park gives it immediate potential. The space itself is open, yet sectioned off to provide a comfortable feel even if it\’s not at capacity. It features several bars, ample seating, and a separate upper level with a second DJ area (that I have yet to see). The venue does not seem \”brand new\” in any intimidating way, yet seems fresh from its recent re-branding while maintaining a well-loved feel that has  been used for years.

With the return of the venue comes a partnership with the Saturday weekly party, Afterlife. As an alternative to the overly pretentious club vibe, the Afterlife movement stresses a \”come as you are, be as you are\” motto and holds no strict dress code, no mandatory coat check, and rarely any cover except for their biggest events. At their previous location they\’ve hosted acts like Bixel Boys, DJ Dan, Ronn Carroll, and DJ Icey. On the horizon, they be hosting Sharam Jey performing on February 20th and Alex Kenji in April.
