Zedd\’s True Colors tour finally made its way to Chicago this past Thursday, October 29th at UIC Pavilion. The tour has been quite the talk of the town since it began in early September. Fans have been ranting and raving about the outstanding visuals and special surprise guests of the tour like Steve Angello and Krewella.
When opener Alex Metric left the stage on Thursday and fans were waiting for who they assumed was going to be Dillon Francis, the special guest of the night was revealed and Martin Garrix took the stage. After throwing down some serious bass and getting the party started, Dillon Francis came out and got the crowed amped up even more for the night\’s main attraction. Dillon\’s set included most of his well-known hits along with silly visuals in the background, from Queen Elizabeth to chicken tenders and pizza.
Zedd took the stage around 10:00pm, opening with \”Spectrum\” and within a few minutes, the crowd was experiencing the True Colors tour to the max. Zedd played most of his hits like \”Beautiful Now\” and \”Clarity.\” He also threw in some remixes of hits like Major Lazer\’s \”Watch Out For This (Bumaye)\” and a few different Daft Punk beats. Each song had most of the pavilion singing along. Zedd closed with his remix of Empire of the Sun\’s \”Alive.\”
The visuals accompanying the show were unlike any I have seen before. It was obvious that a lot time and hard work went into the production of them. The visuals perfectly matched the songs they were designated to. They alternated between very psychedelic, swirling colors and futuristic.
It\’s not everyday you see an artist connect with a crowd the way that Zedd did. The energy of the crowd was electrifying. The songs flowed into each other perfectly and there was not a moment I wasn\’t dancing. The balance between more melodic songs and bass-filled beats was on point and the visuals going along with them were beyond impressive.
I had pretty high expectations going into the show, knowing the reviews and Zedd\’s reputation for putting on a show but did not know exactly what I was in for. Needless to say, any expectation that I did have was beyond met.
