Mamby on the Beach is finally here! Zhu, Passion Pit, J. Phlip, and more will be playing on Saturday and Sunday this weekend at Oakwood Beach (4100 S. Lake Shore Drive). This isn\’t the first beach festival Chicago has seen dedicated to electronic music. Wavefront Music Festival took place on Montrose Beach from 2012-2013, but stopped abruptly last year. It hosted very similar music and artists to Mamby. React Presents knew Chicagoans missed this unique type of festival, and hopefully Mamby on the Beach is here to stay.
There\’s plenty of great afterparties this weekend, too. View the full list here and my top five below:
5. Felix Da Housecat & More at Evil Olive (Saturday) – Chicago house legend Felix da Housecat brings the party to Evil Olive on Sunday night with plenty of local support and a very special guest.
4. Art Department at The MID (Sunday) – Canadian duo Art Department will bring their deep, dark house music to The MID with Chicago native Gene Farris.
3. AC Slater at The MID (Friday) – Night Bass headman AC Slater makes a rare Chicago appearance on Friday night at the official Mamby pre-party. Night Bass had an entire stage to themselves on Sunday of EDC Las Vegas this year. I can\’t wait to get my weekend started at this one!
2. Goldroom & Autograf on the Anita Dee (Saturday) – Los Angeles producer Goldroom and Chicago\’s Autograf will make their way to Dusable Harbor on Saturday night. They\’ll board the Anita Dee II, which has already held several concerts this summer. Tickets come with a 3 hour open bar.
1. James Murphy at The MID (Saturday) – LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy will play at The MID after his 8-9 PM time slot at Mamby on the same day. Murphy played at Wavefront several years ago, and tickets are on their last tier of prices.
EDMChicago is hosting a ticket giveaway for the James Murphy aftershow! View the giveaway here and be sure to follow Mamby on the Beach on Facebook and Twitter. See you on the beach!
