Further extending the boundaries of electronic music, Bassnectar (Lorin Ashton) has confirmed a collaboration with the guitarist of Rage Against the Machine, Tom Morello. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Ashton revealed that he will be featured on Morello\’s new electronic project that will also include other big producers in the electronic arena. According to the interview the instrumental of their song is done but they are seeking a vocalist among Outkast\’s Big Boi, Deftones\’ Chino Moreno, Matt Schultz of Cage the Elephant, Pussy Riot, or anyone else that can handle the job.
This is obviously an avenue that electronic music has not gone down before but with such musical talent involved, how could it go wrong? Ashton acknowledged that Morello has an innovative outlook on electronic music and compared him to his peers who don\’t have as much love for the emerging genre, \”It\’s pretty disappointing watching certain classic heroes of rock music miss the boat,\” he says.
Morello\’s new project represents a major shift in electronic music and could lead to more musicians from other genres to dabble with electronica. This new project dispels all the ludicrous statements about how \”electronic music isn\’t real music\” and shows that even talented, established musicians are starting to notice this musical movement for what it really is.
At the moment there is no title or release date for the new project but thankfully Ashton shed some light on this groundbreaking project, \”[Morello]\’s working on this really cool project where he\’s working with multiple electronic music producers to create electronic songs that he can recreate live on this super, perverted, unexplainable, bastardized guitar mutant instrument thing.\”
Tom Morello\’s new electronic project featuring Bassnectar and others is definitely one to look out for, while serving as the perfect comeback for anyone that says that electronic music isn\’t real music. Check out Tom Morello and Bassnectar in the studio below.
