Yesterday, Beatport released their 2014 charts for top artists, tracks, and genres for the year.
In the Top 20 Tracks category, some of the biggest names in EDM such as David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Martin Garrix and Hardwell fell short of the number 1 spot. Oliver $ and Jimi Jules\’ \”Pushing On\” came out on top this year, a deep house instant-classic of epic proportions. Following close behind were Oliver Heldens\’ \”Gecko\” and Robin Schulz\’ \”Waves\” remix. Accompanied by deep house being awarded the Top Genre, it\’s plain to see where the trends lie as of 2014.
The Top Performers category follows more or less as expected, with Martin Garrix, Hardwell and Oliver Heldens taking the top 3 spots. Also in the top 10 are David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, Showtek and Deorro.
While many of EDM\’s notorious chart-toppers remain in the spotlight, it\’s becoming more and more clear that deep house is on the rise. With upcoming artists like Jauz bridging the gap between deep house and other genres, we are likely to break the house/prog-house reign over Beatport soon.
