\”808\” documentary to depict the rise of hip hop and dance music

Roland\’s TR-808 has been used on more hit records than any other drum machine and has earned a quintessential status in the music industry. You may not be able to recognize the name, but the sounds and beats have been used by producers and artists since it was developed in 1980. It will show how instrumental the 808 has been in not only electronic dance music but many other genres as well. Atlantic Records\’ film side is producing the documentary to detail it\’s iconic rise to fame.

Set to be released in 2015, 808 will show most of the well-known music that used Roland\’s drum machine with supporting interviews from the likes of Phil Collins, Diplo, Fatboy Slim, and many more. In an exclusive interview with Roland founder, Ikutaro \”Mr. K\” Kakehashi, 808 will finally answer the question about why it got discontinued at the height of its popularity.
