Earlier today, Lollapalooza announced over 50 aftershows for later this year. The shows start with Toro Y Moi on Wednesday, July 29th, and end with Kygo, NERO, and others on Sunday night. Tickets for the aftershows go on sale June 5th.
For EDM and Perry\’s fans, here\’s my top five can\’t miss afterparties:
1) NERO at The MID – Performances by British group NERO don\’t come around too often. Even though they\’re releasing a new album on August 28th (their first since 2011), their tour schedule this summer is relatively slow. They performed at Lolla in 2012 and fans have been waiting since. The aftershow at The MID will most likely be a more DJ-oriented set, while their set at Perry\’s will be more a live performance.
2) Boys Noize Records Showcase at Evil Olive – This event is hosted by Boys Noize and will feature several artists signed to his label, Boys Noize Records. Boys Noize performances bring amazing energy, and Evil Olive will be packed Saturday night. Often known as the site of Porn N Chicken dance parties, the venue is only 500 person capacity and is one of the smallest venues for a Lollapalooza aftershow. The party goes until 5 A.M – hopefully his friend RL Grime will make a surprise appearance.
3) DJ Snake and Madeon at The MID – Known as \”Pardon My French,\” Friday night at The MID will feature DJ Snake and Madeon, two famous French producers. Madeon released his debut studio album, Adventure, earlier this year. He\’s not included on the Lollapalooza lineup. DJ Snake is coming off of an energetic main stage set at Ultra where Dillon Francis made a guest appearance during \”Get Low.\” Maybe Dillon will give everybody Snake\’s cell phone number this night at The MID.
4) Alesso with SNBRN at Aragon Ballroom – Saturday Perry\’s headliner Alesso will play at Aragon Ballroom the same night along with SNBRN, who\’s best known for his song \”Raindrops.\” These two DJs both have very different styles that should make for a fun night.
5) Hot Chip with The Hood Internet at The Vic Theater – The British electronic music group Hot Chip released their sixth album in May. The Hood Internet is a Chicago-based duo once known for their mashups and live shows, but are now focused on original content.
Other notable aftershows:
MSTRKRFT at Sound Bar, Kygo at Concord Music Hall, Tove Lo with Broods at Concord Music Hall, What So Not at The MID, Tyler, The Creator with Taco at Concord Music Hall, Carnage at The MID
